                                    Dunnock (Prunella modularis)

An irritating little bird. Irritating in that it won't put in an appearance when it should.

I tried to take part in a BTO woodland bird survey the other year. One of the birds that they were interested in was the Dunnock. Unfortunately, on the days that I did my transect, no birds appeared.

As they were only interested in birds on my special "walk" it appeared that I had no Dunnock at all.

Dunnocks are the prey species for cuckoos. I have heard 2 cuckoos calling this spring(2008) so I hope that there are plenty of Dunnocks around.
