Comma (Polygonia c-album)
wingspan : 4.4 - 4.8 cm;
male/ : Bright orange-brown with
female dark-brown spots and edges
White "comma" on
hindwings.
larval
foodplant: nettles. elm.
I very rarely see this butterfly. Strange really with all the nettles on the site. I have even planted a few Elms. In previous years the white "comma" has been visible on the upper hind-wng, but not on this specimen.
A very warm Sunday morning, March 14th 2009 is the earliest sighting that I have ever had of a Comma.
